I’ve felt like an artist in a couple of tennis matches. The court felt like a stage, and the opponent was more of a puppet. My job was to try different things and see where I could get the appropriate reaction.

Every time I step onto a tennis court is a good day, but sometimes, when you have so many good days, you lose the magic. This mindset is the danger zone because you lose the spark when you begin to take the things you love for granted.

People say the American dream is dead, but I think people just started to dream differently. They want it all. The fame, the fortune, to be filthy rich. The American dream is about finding someone you love and building a little life together that you both love.

I have begun making writing a tradition around my birthday. As I get older, I look at this time as a moment to reflect on life, where I am, and where I want to go. 

When in doubt, think like a kid because a kid doesn't think about all the reasons why not. A kid just does, falls on his face, and gets back up with a little more balance.

Tennis is a messed-up game because it really is all about the mind. Sure, you need to know how to hit the ball and be in shape, but after that, it's all about the neurons in your brain.
